Set against the sprawling prairie backdrop, Hankinson Hills Campground offers a tranquil haven just three miles northwest of Hankinson, North Dakota. Embrace the vast expanse of the countryside while spending a night under the star-studded skies in this rustic, yet inviting, campground.

A Space for Everyone

Divided into two distinct loops, Hankinson Hills Campground caters to both equestrian and non-equestrian campers. With a total of 15 campsites available, six sites within one loop are specifically designated for campers with horses, while the other nine sites accommodate those without equine companions. Each site boasts essential amenities including a picnic table and a fire ring, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable camping experience.

Community Gathering and Wilderness Exploration

The campground offers additional amenities that encourage community engagement and shared experiences. A spacious picnic shelter stands as a focal point for day-use activities and group events. Available free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis, this large shelter provides the perfect spot for gatherings, sheltered picnics, or simply relaxing amidst the serene surroundings. A grand group fire ring, equipped with benches, adds warmth to chilly evenings and fosters camaraderie among fellow campers.

The eight-mile Hankinson Hills Trail, starting conveniently from within the campground, invites hiking enthusiasts to traverse its scenic route. Directions: 

Directions from ND I-29: Take Exit 8 and head west to Hankinson, ND on Highway 11. Continue west on Highway 11, go about two miles past Hankinson and turn north onto 165th Avenue SE. Travel north for about one and a half miles and turn west onto 91st Street SE. Travel west for about one and a quarter miles and turn north into the Hankinson Hills unit. Continue north until you reach the campground.

 

Hankinson Hills Campground offers the following facilities and amenities:

There are 15 sites, six campsites allow campers to have horses, and nine campsites are designated for campers without horses.

 

Cost Details:

  • $10 per night. 
  • Payments can be placed in the fee tube located at the entrance to the campground; payments must be made immediately upon selecting a site.

  • First-come, first-served. No reservations are accepted.
  • Stay limit of 14 consecutive days.
  • Drinking water w/hand pump during the summer months
  • Accessible, unisex vault toilet during the summer months
  • Two potable water wells are available
