In its humble beginning, the Tehachapi Rodeo began as a youth rodeo and evolved into an adult amateur rodeo. In 1985, the rodeo joined the ranks of what now includes over 900 rodeos in 48 states and 4 Canadian Provinces as a pro rodeo sanctioned by the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) and is celebrating it's 19th year as a Ram Truck sponsored Rodeo.

The Tehachapi Mountain Festival PRCA Rodeo was part of the Tehachapi Mountain Festival Committee and numerous members of the community worked diligently to help it evolve into one of the finest rodeos on the California Pro Rodeo Circuit. The rodeo and the committee continued to grow, and in 1997 the Tehachapi Mountain Rodeo Association was formed. It included a dozen members who came together and spent approximately 6 months of the year in preparation for this event.
