Engineer Mountain Trail
Silverton, CO · 12.7 Miles
We have based this review with trailhead parking at the top of Coal Bank Pass where the Pass Trailhead is located. The reason we recommend this access over the lower Engineer Mountain Trailhead is due to the Mountain bike traffic from the upper end of Pass Trail downgrade to the Guard Station. The Mountain bike community loves the downhill section to the Guard Station and it's switchbacks. It enables them to make a high speed run through the high banks on the switchbacks. We rode the Engineer Mountain Trail twice this summer (2022) and ran into mountain bike groups on the Pass Trail. They're going upgrade in this section so there were no surprise meetings and they were all well informed of equestrian right of way and very accommodating to us. It's steep enough that our horses passed two groups as we rode in. This is a spectacular high elevation ride with many cross country possibilities on the east side of Jura Knob. Highly recommend!
