Trail Description
Quiet easy trail with wildlife. Occasional logging operations, be aware. Trail markers may be down due to logging. Not a lot of shade. The Goethe trail system extends throughout the forest with access available at seven separate trailheads. These trailheads are located in five different tracts of the forest. Each trailhead and respective trail system provides a different experience for the recreational user. Goethe State Forest contains many trails that are included in the Florida Forest Service's Trailwalker Hiking Program and the Trailtrotter Program. The forest is open during daylight hours for visitors to enjoy picnicking, hiking, bicycling, fishing, wildlife viewing and horseback riding. All horseback riders must have proof of current negative Coggins test results for their horses when on state lands. Primitive campsites are located at the Tidewater, Black Prong and Watermelon Pond trailheads. As these campsites are primitive, there is no electricity or water on-site. There are restrooms at each of these campgrounds. Campers have a designated parking spot and walk in 20-40 yards to their campsite. Recreation activities featured here are: hiking, picnicking, bird-watching, equestrian, wildlife viewing and photography.
