Kennesaw mountain National Battlefield park has 16+ miles of well marked, well maintained multi use trails. The parking area is a easy horseshoe loop, no special amenities but a large mounting platform is in the center of the parking loop. There is a sign with QR code to scan for parking payment. Cost is $5. This can be purchased online in advance, at the welcome center, or in the form of an America the Beautiful season pass. You can access trails from the front of the parking area, or cross Cheatham hill rd to begin the west loop. There are several loop opportunities, so 5, 8, 11, and 16 mile rides are easy to plan. Trails have gentle hills, and are wide enough in most areas to ride 2 abreast. Please make room for hikers, who are very respectful of equine traffic. While much of the naturally rocky footing has been removed, large portions of trail are surfaced with gravel, so hoof protection is advised for sensitive horses. There are several road crossings. Be alert, use the cross walks and the indicator signs. Efforts are being made to revamp these crossings so that the cross walk buttons are easier to access from horse back. Currently they are at pedestrian height. The final road crossing, across Burt Hickory rd is under construction due to road work. It is not advisable to attempt this crossing at this time. Water is accessible to horses going East 4 miles from the horse trailer parking and West 2 miles from horse parking where there is creek access. Several open fields exist for grazing along the routes.
